District Wellness Committee
Welcome
-
Sycamore Community Schools has a District Wellness Committee comprised of teachers, nurses, kitchen supervisors, parents, physician’s, a building principal, the Assistant Superintendent, and PTO representatives. The committee’s current chairman is Jessica Johnson, RD, LD, SNS who is also the Sycamore Child Nutrition and Wellness Director.
The committee’s goal is to encourage teachers, students and staff to lead healthy lives while providing tools and support to the Sycamore Community Schools system. The hope is for Sycamore to be a healthy school environment in which the students are able to engage in educational experiences that will equip Sycamore students with critical skills that promote the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth needed to be highly successful in life. Alliance For A Healthier Generation
-
Thanks to the Wellness Committee's efforts, Sycamore Community Schools won national recognition for being among the healthiest districts in the nation in 2014. The work lives on and the committee is continuing to strive for excellence and to achieve additional awards.
Sycamore’s seven school buildings were among just 250 schools in the country to win a National Healthy Schools Award from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
The 250 recognized schools come from 30 states. Each recognized school meets or exceeds stringent standards set by the Alliance for healthy eating and physical activity programs and policies. Schools are eligible for National Healthy Schools Awards at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level based on the success they achieve and are also eligible to achieve national recognition with Let’s Move! Active Schools. Sycamore won a Bronze award, and members of the Wellness Committee traveled to Washington, D.C. to accept the award.
